INTRODUCTION

Camberwell High School has an enrolment ceiling of 1200 students. There is strong demand for places at all levels and in recent years there have been over 290 applicants for 200 places at Year 7. The majority of students live in the area around the school. Year 7 applications are handled through the Primary schools whereas students applying for other levels can apply directly through the school. For some years now there have been more applicants than places available.

ENROLMENT PRIORITIES

The Regional Office has determined the following priorities for all schools to follow:

  1. Students for whom Camberwell High School is the designated neighbourhood school for their permanent residential address. Please refer to the Official Neighbourhood map Permanent residential address means living with the student's family within the designated neighbourhood zone and does not include staying with a relative or friend.
  2. Students who currently have an older sibling who resides at the same address attending the school
  3. Students in order of closeness of their home to the school, subject to available places. In recent years approximately fifty per cent of students enrolled into Year 7 reside outside the Official Neighbourhood.
  4. Students seeking enrolment on specific curriculum grounds (documentation required).

Please note that enrolment in Years 8-12 is restricted by the numbers of students who leave the school at the various levels and is often restricted to students whose permanent residential address in within our Official Neighbourhood. In these cases evidence of residence will be required

YEAR 7

The application process to enrol in Year 7 is initially handled by the Primary while the student is in Year 6. It is not possible to apply before June in Year 6 or directly to the High School. However families residing overseas at the time of application should contact the High School directly. The process for local residents is as follows:

  1. Applications forms for Year 7 are distributed to students in Year 6 by their Primary Schools in early May.
  2. Applications are returned to the Primary School in mid June.
  3. The Primary Schools informs the secondary schools of applicants.
  4. Secondary school notifies Primary School of successful applicants (N.B. There are several rounds of steps 3 and 4 as the Primary School works down the preference listed specified on the application form by parents until all students have a place.
  5. Primary Schools notify parents of the school that has offered a place for their child, normally in early September.
  6. As demand for places generally exceeds places available Camberwell High School invites applicants for our waiting list as often additional places become available during Term 4.

Please note that neither the primary school nor the secondary school is able to disclose placements prior to the notification from the primary school in early September. The school allocates places for Year 7 according to the enrolment priorities listed below.

SCHOOL TOURS AND OPEN DAY

At Camberwell High School we understand that choosing the right school for your child is an important decision. Parents and students are better prepared to make the choice once they have seen the school in action. Each year we provide opportunities for you to tour the school on a 'normal school day'.

To ensure that you have an opportunity to ask questions and gain the information you need to make an informed decision, we ask that you contact the school office on 9836 0555 to book a tour that is most convenient for you.

Our school tours are conducted fortnightly.  Tours leave from the Administration Office in the main front building at 9.00am and take around 45 minutes.

Our next tours are:

  • Thursday 19th November
  • Wednesday 2nd December

In addition to tours the school holds an Open Evening each year in May. The school is open and in action in the evening. Many of our students volunteer to be tour leaders for Open Night and welcome the opportunity to show visitors around and to talk with pride about life at Camberwell High School.
